2025 Cooperative Education Award Winners

The Cooperative Education Awards celebrate the continued success of our Drexel Dragons' co-op experiences.

For over 100 years, the Drexel Co-op program has empowered students to discover what they love to do, and don't love to do, all before graduation. We celebrate those who have excelled through this hallmark tradition each year with the Cooperative Education Awards.

Nominating Co-op Employer:
New Hope Christian Academy

Imani left a lasting impact on both the students and school community of New Hope Christian Academy during her Dance and Movement Therapy (DMT) co-op. Imani designed and implemented a comprehensive therapeutic movement program for students aged three to eight, helping foster emotional expression, self-regulation, and social interaction. Imani showed professionalism in every interaction, treating students, staff, and families with kindness and respect. She also worked to individualize the programs to cater to each student’s needs — one of her most notable contributions was her work with a student diagnosed with autism who faced challenges with sensory processing and communication in group settings. Imani developed a one-on-one program combining gentle, rhythmic movements with calming music. Through consistent sessions, she introduced sensory-friendly activities that helped the student regulate emotions and build trust. Over time, the student began engaging more during group activities and even initiated interactions with peers. This breakthrough highlighted Imani’s ability to adapt therapeutic techniques to meet the diverse needs of individual students, demonstrating empathy, creativity, and a deep understanding of therapeutic practices.

Faculty/Staff of the Year

Photo of Ellen Bass

Ellen Bass, PhD, Interim Senior Associate Dean of Research for the College of Computing & Informatics

Nominating Staff:
Associate Director for Cooperative Education Mike Kaczmarczik

Dr. Bass is a stalwart advocate for the students at Drexel University, going above and beyond to do right by the students. This is well illustrated by Dr. Bass’ incredible efforts to secure opportunities for College of Computing & Informatics students. Dr. Bass hired students to help support her own research work — which has resulted in undergraduate co-op students co-authoring a paper that was recognized among the best submitted to the 2024 Applied Human Factors and Ergonomics (AHFE) conference. Beyond the work Dr. Bass manages, co-op students benefit from opportunities solicited and organized by Dr. Bass. Scores of students have applied to research and tech start-up positions that Dr. Bass has facilitated through her own colleagues and partners. This has resulted in dozens of successful co-ops for students.

As one co-op student of Dr. Bass’ noted:

“There are many features that Dr. Bass possesses that are just hard to explain with words. Her leadership, organization, transparency, problem-solving, patience, positivity, critical thinking, creativity, caringness, and much, much more are just amazing.”
